Neurological and psychiatric conditions, along with bioengineering and medical technology to fight cancer, were the two main focal points of the scientific debates that took place in 2020 through B·Debate - International Center for Scientific Debate Barcelona. This program is an initiative of EIT Health with Biocat, the ”la Caixa” Foundation and Medicen Paris that aims to boost the international projection of healthcare research projects and facilitate transfer to society, in addition to creating or strengthening international collaborative networks and promoting synergies to create new projects and collaborations with experts in each area.
In 2020, two debates were held online, as a result of the pandemic and the health restrictions in place at the time they were scheduled. In total, more than 1,000 people attended over the four days. For the Brain Health for Life webinar, 1,007 people signed up and 290 ended up participating, while for the Bioengineering and Medtech Against Cancer, 404 signed up but 1,239 participated in the end. These figures show that people in the ecosystem are interested in chats by experts and on hot topics.
Benchmark scientific organizations took part in the debates, including Guttmann Brain Health Institute, ISGlobal, Pompeu Fabra University, IDIBAPS / Hospital Clinic, Center for Cognitive and Brain Health at Northeastern University, Clinic Institute of Neurosciences & AdSalutem, University College London, INSERM, Taub Institute for the Research on Alzheimer’s Disease and the Aging Brain, Columbia University, Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC).
B·Debate sessions have their own webpage, with the materials generated at each of the sessions in Catalan and English. B·Debate also shares the knowledge and results obtained through each debate in news articles, events with journalists and the Synopses.
The following B·Debate sessions were held in 2020:
- Brain Health for Life. Preventing Brain-Related Disability (December 15 and 16)
- Bioengineering and Medtech Against Cancer (November 24 and 25).
